DEBATE OF INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS

CHARACTERISTICS OF EFFECTIVE DEBATE (20 points per debate):

Evaluation criteria: a) completeness of thought, b) logical reasoning, c) clear statement of speaker's position, d) conviction of delivery, and e) concise and effective statement of discussion.

Each debate should have a logical conclusion. Good debate would be characterized by effective delivery, substance, creative and visionary thought delivered in a convincing and compelling manner.

Poor debate would be characterized by a lack of effective delivery, poor grammar, reasoning and substance.

GRADING SCALE

Excellent....16-20 points
Good.........11-15 points
Average.....6-10 points
Poor...........0-5 points



CHAIR--ABILITY TO PRESIDE (80 points):

Evaluation criteria: Handling of motions, keeping members informed, use of the gavel, and distribution of debate.

SUGGESTED GRADING SCALE

Excellent....61-80 points
Good.........41-60 points
Average.....21-40 points
Poor...........0-20 points



CHAIR'S--LEADERSHIP (20 points):

Evaluation criteria: Stage presence, poise, self-confidence, politeness, and voice.

SUGGESTED GRADING SCALE

Excellent....16-20 points
Good.........11-15 points
Average.....6-10 points
Poor...........0-5 points



TEAM'S GENERAL EFFECT--CONCLUSIONS REACHED BY TEAM
(50 points):


Evaluation criteria: Team's use of motions and debate support disposal of main motion.

SUGGESTED GRADING SCALE

Excellent....39-50 points
Good.........26-38 points
Average.....14-25 points
Poor...........0-13 points



TEAM'S GENERAL EFFECT--TEAM EFFECT (50 points):

Evaluation criteria: Degree to which debate was convincing, logical, realistic, orderly and efficient.

Excellent....39-50 points
Good.........26-38 points
Average.....14-25 points
Poor...........0-13 points
